Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Completion of an recognized Nurse Practitioner program
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years clinical nursing experience in the last seven years in adult acute care surgical services

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should constantly move, lift, or operate equipment or machinery up to 10 lbs, and occasionally reposition patients weighing over 50 lbs
  • The candidate should regularly sit to conduct patient histories, perform computer work, and assess patients, while also standing or walking
  • The candidate should demonstrate fine fingeror precision work and use hand tools medical instruments, computer mouse and stethoscope with accurate control and steadiness during procedures
  • The candidate should maintain visual concentration during physical assessments and procedures, completing charts or reports, observing patients, reading equipment or monitors, and handling work-related correspondence on the computer

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should have current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (or be eligible for licensure) as a Nurse Practitioner (Family or All Ages or Adult) with the CRNNL and possess current BCLS Certification
  • The candidate should demonstrate strong abilities in collaboration, clinical reasoning, professional development, interpersonal effectiveness, conflict management, and teamwork
  • The candidate should possess strong communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and teaching skills
  • The candidate should demonstrate the ability to function autonomously in an advanced practice role
  • The candidate should support and participate in research to improve practice and client outcomes
  • The candidate should have demonstrated skills in computer and database management and demonstrated progressive clinical leadership skills
  • The candidate should have a satisfactory record of work performance is required for this role

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to work within the Nurse Practitioner’s (NP) scope of practice in either the Family or All Ages or adult category
  • The candidates should be able to provide pre and post-operative care for frail elderly and other adult orthopedic patients at St. Clare’s
  • The candidates should be able to manage geriatric care for the majority of admitted hip fractures and frail elderly undergoing restorative surgery
  • The candidates should be able to conduct medication reviews upon admission and collaborate with the geriatrics team, including performing geriatric assessments
  • The candidates should be able to manage post-operative care with a focus on preventing delirium and other complications, and assist in discharge planning
  • The candidates should be able to actively participate in several studies involving the patient group, collaborating closely with orthopedics and geriatrics teams in data collection and analysis
  • The candidates should be able to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with nursing, social work, physiotherapy, medicine, Residents or clinical clerks, and other healthcare professionals
  • The candidates should be able to perform floor-based duties with additional responsibilities including emergency and clinic assessments
