Eastern Health’s Mental Health and Addictions department offers comprehensive services for individuals facing mental health and addiction challenges. It provides assessment, treatment, and support programs across various settings. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as Post-secondary education in Mental Health
Experience: Candidates should have Experience working with clients/patients/residents with severe and persistent mental illness

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of occasionally lifting and moving objects less than 10 lbs and regularly drive to and from clients’ residences and drive clients to various locations
  • The candidates should regularly sit at a desk and use the computer and be prepared  pressures, deadlines, interruptions, and a lack of control over the pace of work
  • The candidates should have visual concentration for physical changes or abnormal behavior in clients, and auditory concentration for communication purposes. Other sensory demands include smell (to detect illegal substances, alcohol, or personal hygiene issues)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be prepared for working with clients with mental health issues, which can require higher than normal levels of attentiveness or alertness for the health and safety of others
  • The candidates should ensure exact results and precision when documenting information on clients’ progress to ensure that an accurate record of daily activities and/or incidents is reflected
  • The candidates should have post-secondary education in Mental Health, which is required
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to support people with activities of daily living and should possess BLS Certification
  • The candidates should hold a valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver’s License and have access to a personal vehicle as conditions of employment
  • The candidates should maintain a satisfactory record of work performance and attendance

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide direct home support and community access to clients with severe and persistent mental illness
  • The candidates should be able to assist clients with life skills such as cooking, shopping, money management, housekeeping, and making and attending appointments
  • The candidates should be able to encourage personal care and assist with medication compliance
  • The candidates should be able to observe for changes in health status and report them to the ACT Team
  • The candidates should be able to encourage and accompany clients in leisure and recreational activities or community events
  • The candidates should be able to advocate on behalf of clients for resources and provide emotional support
