Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of an approved Personal Care Attendant Program
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should be able to regularly lift, move objects or supplies weighing up to 30 lb and engage in frequent standing and walking
- The candidate should be capable of a variety of body movements including bending, kneeling, stretching, pushing, and pulling objects using light to medium force
- The candidate should be proficient in data input and visual monitoring, and maintain higher than normal levels of attentiveness and attention to the health and safety of others in the provision of all forms of care
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should have other equivalency as determined by the employer, which may include completion of an adequate portion of the BN or Practical Nurse program to enable the applicant to meet a majority of the duties, responsibilities, and psychomotor competencies of the PCA and possess a current BLS Certification
- The candidate should demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with residents, staff, and families Additionally
- The candidate should demonstrate initiative, the ability to work independently, and prioritize work duties and satisfactory record of work performance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to work under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse in the Mental Health and Addictions Program
- The candidates should be able to provide basic health care and support to patients and the area
- The candidates should be able to transport or escort patients, specimens, equipment, and supplies
- The candidates should be able to assist with basic patient needs such as mobility assistance and bathing
- The candidates should be able to assist patients with meals, snacks and stocking and perform other related duties
