Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Master’s of Social Work degree
Experience: Candidates should have 3 years of post-graduate work experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively as a team member in a dynamic, interprofessional environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be registered and a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • The candidates should ideally have experience on an inpatient unit
  • The candidates should demonstrate preference for experience in acute care of clients with a range of psychiatric diagnoses, possess sound knowledge of DSM-IV diagnoses, crisis intervention theory and techniques, experience in providing instrumental assistance to clients, and experience in facilitating psycho-educational or supportive counseling and groups
  • The candidates should expect the model of care on the new unit to emphasize treatment of concurrent disorders, providing opportunities for capacity building and skill development
  • The candidates should possess successful completion of PMAB (Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior) training
  • The candidates should have experience working with clients, staff, and organizations of diverse ethnoracial backgrounds
  • The candidates should exhibit excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • The candidates should consider bilingualism (English and French) or proficiency in a second

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, and substance use concerns within the context of social work practice and provide supervision to master of social work students, fostering their professional development and growth
  • The candidate should be able to identify and address psychosocial issues in both individual and group settings, utilizing appropriate interventions and therapeutic techniques
  • The candidate should be able to function effectively as part of an interprofessional team, collaborating with colleagues from various disciplines to provide comprehensive care to clients
  • The candidate should be able to act as a resource person and deliver relevant social work services to clients, their families, and other stakeholders involved in their care and participate in the assessment and treatment process, contributing valuable insights from a social work perspective
  • The candidate should be able to provide psycho-education and supportive counseling to patients and their families, helping them understand and cope with their mental health challenges
  • The candidate should be able to contribute to the development and delivery of group programs on the inpatient units, promoting therapeutic engagement and skill-building among clients and engage clients in the discharge planning process, facilitating smooth transitions from inpatient to community-based care
  • The candidate should be able to actively participate in program development, research, and education activities within the service, leveraging their expertise to enhance social work practice
  • The candidate should be able to collaborate with faculties of social work on special projects related to the advancement of the social work field, contributing valuable insights and expertise
  • The candidate should be able to support and contribute to a workplace culture that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements
