Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an accredited nursing education program or Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
Experience: Candidates should have 2-3 years recent nursing experience in Medical/Radiation Oncology

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to perform tasks that require standing, sitting, bending, stretching, and lifting. Patient assistance, pushing and pulling mobile computers or carts, and lifting boxes or equipment up to 40 lbs.
  • The candidates should be willing to undergo Good Clinical Practice, ICH, and Health Canada Regulatory training if not current

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold a current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification and have completed CRNA Medication Management – Chapters 1 – 4 and obtained the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification
  • The candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of clinical trials experience and should have experience with gastrointestinal cancer disease, diagnosis, and treatment
  • The candidates should have experience with the delivery of chemotherapy/biotherapy/cancer treatments, including knowledge of mechanisms of action and their adverse event profiles, which is preferred
  • The candidates should possess comprehensive patient assessment, management, and intervention skills and have preference given to those with O-PREP or ONDEC oncology training
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and should demonstrate time management and organization skills, along with flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple patients or projects
  • The candidates should possess effective oral and written communication skills and have good computer skills and experience using electronic medical charts or patient management systems
  • The candidates should have baccalaureate preparation and should have clinical trials membership or certification (SoCRA and ACRP)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist with the coordination of clinical research trials, including identifying potential participants and ensuring trial compliance according to study protocol and able to work within a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability
  • The candidates should be able to perform patient assessments, management, and education, including obtaining informed consent and conducting pre-testing and able to plan, implement, and coordinate all aspects of data collection and source documentation according to ICH/GCP guidelines
  • The candidates should be able to execute all aspects of study visits, including assessments, adverse event and medication review, safety monitoring, and administering questionnaires and able to make autonomous clinical and professional decisions on a daily basis, ensuring adherence to defined clinical trial protocols and organizational policies and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to oversee the day-to-day management of patients during the study and liaise between patients, families, Clinical Research Coordinators, the Health Care Team, and related treatment areas
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with Study Sponsors and Monitors, assist in the preparation of Research Ethics Board applications and operational approvals, and facilitate regulatory audits and able to deliver cancer treatments if required, including performing blood collection and ECG monitoring as needed
  • The candidates should be able to provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, ensuring their safety and well-being and able to utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making to provide safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization
