Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have a university degree or equivalent newsroom experience
Experience: Candidates should have minimum eight years of comparable and relevant experience in journalism, reporting Canadian and international news
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be available to work a variety of shift times, including weekends, and be open to overtime as required
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have excellent presentation skills, with the ability to gather and report developments with speed, accuracy, and in context, often while on air for extended periods of time
- The candidates should be experienced in reporting live and breaking news. They should demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, tight-deadline environment
- The candidates should have hosting experience as it is an asset
- The candidates should possess superior knowledge of broadcast journalism, and related skills including writing, interviewing, and reporting live to the camera
- The candidates should have experience and ability in navigating social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and agencies like Storyful. They should have knowledge of fair dealing
- The candidates should have a thorough understanding of national and international news stories and issues
- The candidates should have knowledge and ability to report on a range of topics including health, politics, business, science, technology, pop culture, and entertainment
- The candidates should possess superb analytical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to make complex stories and issues easily understood
- The candidates should have knowledge of CBC editorial policies, including CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices
- The candidates should have knowledge of an additional language (or more) as it is an asset
- The candidates should have proficiency in learning and adapting to technology, such as touch screens and newsroom computer systems like iNews
