Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a minimum grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have minimum 3 years of face-to-face customer service experience in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to endure prolonged sitting for 20-75 minutes at a stretch and standing for periods required for pre-trip inspections and operator relief
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to walk through garages, transit facilities and stations and proficiency in climbing on and off the bus and into the driver’s seat
  • The candidates should possess the strength to apply 4-6 kg-force for gas and signal pedals and apply 10-15 kg-force for the parking brake
  • The candidates should be proficient in issuing transfer slips, entering data, operating controls and bend, twist the back, and flex, extend, twist, and turn the neck, wrists, steering wheel, bike rack, frequent repetitive reaching, whole-body vibration, interior, natural and fluorescent lighting
  • The candidates should be aware of and prepared for exposure to chemical, biological, and mechanical hazards, including fumes and team players and collaborate effectively with other transit operators and interacting with the public while driving
  • The candidates should meet hearing, speaking, and vision requirements
  • The candidates should have moderate memory ability to recall information that is harder to remember due to infrequency or time constraints
  • The candidates should be comfortable with moderate and frequent pressure to work within time constraints
  • The candidates should have be legally entitled to work in Canada and working independently with no supervisory responsibility
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and split and straight shifts in a 24-hour, 365-day operational environment
  • The candidates should be able to safely operate a MiWay vehicle while adhering to the schedule and rules of the road, navigating various road and traffic conditions and willing to work indoors and outdoors with varying weather conditions

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a minimum Grade 12 education (Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent)
  • The candidates should possess a valid, unrestricted fully-licensed Class “G” Driver’s Licence or above (or equivalent for out of province applicants) for a minimum of 3 years and a 3-year Driver Record (abstract) with 0 demerit points, up to 1 infraction, and no record of their licence being suspended or revoked
  • The candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of face-to-face customer service experience in a fast-paced environment
  • The candidates should be able to meet all legislated standards governing the issuance of a CZ Licence, including the successful completion of a medical exam
  • The candidates should have a strong ability to understand, speak, and write in English in order to communicate effectively with the public and to report on incidents involving safety and/or service
  • The candidates should have demonstrate a strong ability to learn and use computer software applications and email
  • The candidates should have demonstrated experience dealing with the public in a position which requires independent problem-solving and conflict resolution
  • The candidates should have a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening – Level 3) provided by the local police service will be required of the successful candidate, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a record suspension has not been granted
  • The candidates should be able to effectively communicate with Transit Control, Supervisors, and Transit Enforcement for important information and intense attention to detail and concentration, required for the majority of the shift
  • The candidates should be prepared for occasional exposure (approximately weekly) to emotionally stressful circumstances or emotionally distressed individuals with whom they must interact to complete job requirements
  • The candidates should be able to work effectively despite a high degree of distracting stimuli present for the majority of the shift and errors in judgment or attention could have grave or life-threatening consequences

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide exceptional customer service to passengers by offering information about routes, directions, and fares, ensuring they arrive at their destination smoothly
  • The candidates should be able to perform safety inspections of the bus and promptly report any incidents to Transit Control
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the needs of passengers with accessible seating or mobility devices are met, including kneeling the bus and deploying the accessibility ramp
  • The candidates should be able to monitor activities on the bus to ensure passenger safety and a positive customer experience
  • The candidates should be able to observe payment of cash and PRESTO fares, enter data into the farebox, and verify the validity of transfers and passes
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate the MiWay values of teamwork and commitment in every interaction
