Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Post-secondary education in an environmental-related discipline of engineering civil, environmental and bio systems engineering
Experience: Candidates should have experience in water systems engineering, including drinking water supply, treatment, storage and distribution systems

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • The candidates should provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • The candidates should be registered or eligible for registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba as a Professional Engineer
  • The candidates should be able to perform fieldwork, which requires walking through rough terrain and carrying up to 20 lbs
  • The candidates should possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
  • The candidates should be able to work overtime and outside of regular working hours

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess an equivalent combination of related education, specialized technical training and experience
  • The candidates should have experience in environmental engineering, including manure management, wastewater treatment and disposal, and environmental impact assessments
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to read construction plans and learn and work with appropriate industry software tools and technology to successfully complete assignments projects
  • The candidates should have effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and develop effective working relationships at all levels, including internal and external stakeholders
  • The candidates should possess excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with a variety of stakeholders, conveying technical information to non-technical audiences
  • The candidates should have excellent written communication skills, including experience writing various technical documents to support project planning and execution, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with a variety of stakeholders
  • The candidates should demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills to effectively deliver services in a high volume and tight deadline environment
  • The candidates should have experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Teams, Access and Outlook
  • The candidates should have desired qualifications include knowledge of applicable provincial acts and regulations, as well as knowledge of Workplace Safety and Health work practices

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to conduct highly technical reviews of drinking water systems to ensure compliance with The Drinking Water Safety Act, its regulations, and industry standards
  • The candidates should be able to determine approval conditions, issue permits, oversee compliance with approval conditions, review water system assessments, and inspect new water system works
  • The candidates should be able to provide professional advice as a drinking water specialist on a province-wide basis to water system owners and operators, consultants, external agencies, senior managers, and other branches and units
  • The candidates should be able to offer engineering advice and technical guidance, conduct inspections, and review engineering design and construction reports and drawings
  • The candidates should be able to manage and process applications for approval related to the management of manure and the collection, treatment, and disposal of municipal wastewater
  • The candidates should be able to evaluate the potential environmental impacts of engineering designs for facilities and proposed mitigation measures
