Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of an approved Personal Care Attendant Program
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should regularly lift, move objects and supplies up to 30 lbs and engage in frequent standing and walking
- The candidates should regularly perform a variety of body movements, including bending, kneeling, and stretching, as well as pushing and pulling objects using light to medium force
- The candidates should be proficient in data input, visual monitoring and maintain higher than normal levels of attentiveness and attention to the health and safety of others in the provision of all forms of care
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess a Bachelor of Nursing Degree or other equivalency as determined by the employer. Equivalency may include completion of an adequate portion of the BN or Practical Nurse program to enable the applicant to meet a majority of the duties, responsibilities, and psychomotor competencies of the PCA
- The candidates should have strong oral and written communication skills
- The candidates should be able to maintain effective working relationships with residents, staff and families
- The candidates should demonstrate initiative and be able to work independently while prioritizing work duties
- The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide support to residents in all aspects of daily living through companionship, physical, spiritual and psychosocial care
- The candidates should be able to perform duties related to all aspects of the residents’ personal needs, including nutrition, personal hygiene and mobility
- The candidates should be able to assist with planning and providing various recreational activities for residents
- The candidates should be able to support families and residents with end-of-life issues
- The candidates should be able to escort residents
- The candidates should be able to perform duties under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse, in keeping with the philosophy of resident-centered care
- The candidates should be able to manage the diverse needs of residents resulting from chronic illness, functional, and cognitive impairments
- The candidates should be able to provide care for a population that includes frail or elderly adults, individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, and individuals with mental illness
- The candidates should be able to function in a fast-paced environment with frequent contact with the public, residents and other health professionals
