Government of Nunavut’s Health Department based in Cambridge Bay, NU is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Regional environmental health officer. Government of Nunavut’s Health Department provides comprehensive healthcare services to Nunavut residents, including primary care, emergency services, and mental health support. It focuses on delivering culturally appropriate, community-based healthcare. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the Inuktut, English, and French Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an undergraduate degree from a recognized University in the Environmental Health field
Experience: Candidates should have two years of related experience in the Environmental Health field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have certification by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors and have a Class 5 driver’s license
  • The candidates should have the ability to operate as a Peace Officer in accordance with section 22 of the Public Health Act
  • The candidates should note that this is a Highly Sensitive Position requiring a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check
  • The candidates should be aware that COVID-19 vaccination is a mandatory condition of employment and should submit proof of vaccination with their application
  • The candidates should note that the official languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English, and French, and they may submit their resume in any of these languages
  • The candidates should understand that fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, and Inuktut

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide a wide range of public health functions and advocate for public health and safety across Nunavut
  • The candidates should be able to focus on health protection and disease or injury prevention and engage in health promotion activities
  • The candidates should be able to conduct health surveillance and population health assessment
  • The candidates should be able to offer consultative services to individuals and health facility staff
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with federal, territorial, and municipal governments
  • The candidates should be able to work with non-governmental organizations on environmental health issues
  • The candidates should be able to apply background knowledge, theory, and education to guide remediation efforts
  • The candidates should be able to direct appropriate actions based on risk assessments and use critical thinking skills to assess risks

Benefits:

  • The candidates will get an annual Northern Allowance $20891.00 per annum
  • The candidates will get recruitment bonuses include $3000.00 on start date, $3000.00 at 6 months of service, $5000.00 at 1 year of service and $7000.00 at 2 years of service
