Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an accredited practical nurse education program
Experience: Candidates should have at least 1 year of acute care experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work in a physically demanding environment, involving constant walking, bending, and lifting 50 lbs or more and work well independently and within a team
  • The candidates should demonstrate critical thinking skills within their scope of practice, including clinical judgment, problem-solving skills, and strong decision-making ability

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
  • The candidates should have current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
  • The candidates should have successfully completed CLPNA modules, including Standards of Practice on Restricted Activities and Advanced Practice, as well as certifications in required competencies
  • The candidates should possess basic keyboarding and computer skills, excellent communication skills and balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities
  • The candidates should have experience working within the CoACT framework; Connect Care experience
  • The candidates should have experience in caring for medical, post-operative surgical, orthopedic, and subacute patients
  • The candidates should have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification; this is favored, IV Therapy and PICC certification

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to participate in quality monitoring activities, facilitating patient and family-centered education and discharge planning according to established standards
  • The candidates should be able to work within the identified scope of practice of their assigned unit under the supervision of the Registered Nurse
  • The candidates should be able to maintain competent practice and provide care according to CLPNA regulations and AHS policies and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills as part of an interprofessional healthcare team
  • The candidates should be able to provide safe, quality patient and family-centered care, reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS
  • The candidates should be able to thrive in a supportive work environment that offers growth opportunities and comprehensive health and dental benefits for themselves and their families
