Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a college diploma or degree or other recognized technical qualifications specializing in ceramics, craft and design, or fine art
Experience: Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience in a ceramic studio and some experience as an assistant technician

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be available and willing to work evenings and weekends, provide a satisfactory criminal and vulnerable sector screening check dated within the last 30 days as a condition of employment, if they are new hires or have not previously performed in this position

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold Emergency First Aid with CPR B certification and possess excellent communication and customer service skills
  • The candidates should have completed HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) for instructing children’s programs for ages 4-12 years

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to maintain the ceramic studio equipment in good operating order, including performing weekly and monthly maintenance, safely operate all equipment and adhere to proper handling of all products in the ceramic studio according to WHMIS standards
  • The candidates should be able to maintain and mix studio glazes and slips, as well as reclaim clay for programs, operate, fire, and maintain 4 electric kilns for all programs
  • The candidates should be able to adhere to all Health and Safety procedures/standards in the ceramic studio, provide technical support to users and staff to ensure equipment is used properly and safely
  • The candidates should be able to develop and provide all safety training to users, run the public Drop-in Ceramic studio program (approximately 12 hours a week)
  • The candidates should be able to support instructors and students in various clay programs, communicate regularly with the Culture Coordinator about any problems and/or recommendations regarding equipment and facilities that may affect the safe operation of the ceramic studio
  • The candidates should be able to maintain all maintenance and safety logs for the ceramic studio equipment, ensure all warranty requirements are maintained and operating procedures and maintenance are followed according to warranty requirements
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the continuing safety of all users while in the ceramic studio and document all accidents/incidents immediately. All reports must be received by the Department within 24 hours and perform other duties
