Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of completed Grade 10
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to interpret manufacturer’s instructions and diagrams pertaining to equipment
- The candidates should be able to requisition parts and materials, operate vehicles and heavy-duty equipment
- The candidates should be able to plan, assign, and supervise one or more subordinates, inspect and test City vehicles for roadworthiness, following prescribed provincial standards
- The candidates should demonstrate skill in the use and care of tools and equipment employed in the trade
- The candidates should have the agility, muscular coordination, and sufficient strength to permit the performance of heavy manual labour
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should hold a Heavy Duty Mechanic or Commercial Transport Certificate of Qualifications (T.Q.), with an Inter-Provincial Red Seal Endorsement; Red Seal certification, supplemented by technical courses related to the work
- The candidates should possess thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the automotive and heavy-duty mechanical trade, thorough knowledge of braking systems, considerable knowledge of hazards and proper safety precautions in the trade
- The candidates should be able to perform a variety of complex skilled electrical and mechanical tasks in the overhaul, repair, maintenance, and adjustment of motorcycles, automotive, heavy-duty equipment, and marine electrical systems
- The candidates should be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions, which may be accompanied by sketches and diagrams
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform fleet servicing primarily at the fully equipped Garage at Manitoba Yards, which supports a diverse team of approximately 150 employees from various trades
- The candidates should be able to collaborate with Fleet and Manufacturing Services team members to deliver high-quality and timely maintenance and repairs for clients
- The candidates should be able to manage a variety of mechanical tasks involving small and heavy equipment, automobiles, light to heavy trucks, trailers, and other fleet-related
- The candidates should be able to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment that requires adaptability and attention to detail, take advantage of continued education and professional development opportunities offered by the City of Vancouver
- The candidates should be able to participate in manufacturer and dealer training on newly acquired fleet equipment
- The candidates should be able to proactively seek out training to enhance their skills, knowledge, and abilities relevant to fleet and equipment servicing
