Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed secondary education
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 1 year of laboratory work experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should be flexible and able to accommodate assigned shifts, which are based on operational needs and may include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays
- The candidate should be aware that shifts will typically be assigned 4–6 weeks in advance, with common shift times including 0600–1400, 0700–1500, 0800–1600, 0600–1600, 0900–1700, or 1700–0100, depending on operational requirements
- The candidate should meet the physical requirements for the role, including the ability to lift weights up to 10 kg (22 lbs)
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should have and have, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- The candidate should have a BSc or College Diploma and good oral and written communication skills
- The candidate should have technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office and other relevant computer skills
Responsibilities:
- The candidate should be able to draw on their knowledge and experience in laboratory functions to process blood components such as platelet concentrates, fresh frozen plasma, cryoprecipitate, recovered plasma, concentrated red cells, and cryosupernatant plasma from whole blood and apheresis donations
- The candidate should be able to utilize their understanding of blood component production to issue blood products to Public Health and outside agencies for Quality Control, as well as supply blood and related products to customers such as provincial hospitals and other blood centers
- The candidate should be able to apply excellent organizational skills to maintain stock of supplies in the component laboratory, including fractionation products, red blood cells, and platelets
- The candidate should be able to use strong attention to detail to maintain appropriate documentation and records related to inventory, ensuring compliance with Canadian Blood Services operational procedures and work instructions
- The candidate should be able to proactively perform routine maintenance of equipment and work areas to ensure the safety and quality of blood products and maintain accurate temperature records of laboratory equipment
