Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed the Walkerton Clean Water Centre (WCWC) Entry-Level Drinking Water Course
Experience: Candidates should have one to two (1 to 2) years of experience in a related field involving manual/physical labour and the operation of power tools, vehicles, and equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a passion for promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace, and the ability to work respectfully and effectively in a team environment
  • The candidates should demonstrate a clear commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity, and Inclusion

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, with thorough knowledge of wastewater collection and pumping system standards, specifications, equipment, materials, techniques, and procedures
  • The candidates should be MECP Certified Operators for Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection (Class 1 preferred); candidates with an Operator-in-Training (OIT) license and a minimum of six (6) months of direct experience as an MECP Certified Operator in Wastewater
  • The candidates should possess a valid MTO ‘DZ’ class driver’s license in good standing, with a driver’s abstract acceptable to the City maximum of 3 demerit points, no more than 2 convictions in the past 36 months, no driving-related criminal code convictions in the past 36 months, and no ignition interlock restrictions)
  • The candidates should have strong oral and written communication skills, with basic computer/tablet knowledge, demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering quality customer service

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to perform preventative maintenance and respond to emergencies for wastewater collection and water distribution systems (Class 2 facilities)
  • The candidate should be able to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including MECP guidelines, while maintaining accurate documentation and records
  • The candidate should be able to contribute to the development and implementation of operational and maintenance programs to support divisional goals and customer
  • The candidate should be able to participate in the on-duty rotation for Operator in Charge (OIC) responsibilities, in alignment with their certification level
  • The candidate should be able to provide functional and operational training to team members
