Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed the twelfth school grade
Experience: Candidates should have experience in street lighting design and traffic signal design
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should have the ability to prepare, read, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- The candidate should have the ability to direct and supervise the work of subordinates engaged in technical field and office duties
- The candidate should have the ability to perform research tasks and compile statistical and narrative reports
- The candidate should have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all internal/external stakeholders and the public
- The candidate should have the ability to enforce rules and regulations with tact, the ability to multitask and prioritize work efficiently, the ability to estimate labour and material costs for complex projects
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should have supplemented by either completion of an electrical apprenticeship or recognized electrical technician courses/program
- The candidate should have considerable experience as an electrical designer, electrical technologist, electrician, or any equivalent combination of training and experience, knowledge of AutoCAD, AGI32, Word, Excel, and ETAP
- The candidate should have knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), City of Vancouver Design Guidelines and Construction Standards, Master Municipal Construction Documents (MMCD), the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) specifications, the Uniform Traffic Control Device (UTCD) standards, and the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) of North America standards and lighting simulation
- The candidate should have considerable knowledge of the principles and theory of electricity and electronics and their practical applications
Responsibilities:
- The candidate should be able to develop design solutions for street lighting, traffic signals, power distribution, communication systems, and related infrastructure, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations
- The candidate should be able to conduct site surveys, inspections, and technical investigations to collect data necessary for engineering projects
- The candidate should be able to liaise effectively with internal and external customers, City divisions and departments, electricians, superintendents, civil crews, project coordinators and managers, consultants, Business Improvement Associations, and the general public
- The candidate should be able to provide accurate construction estimates for labor and materials using in-house software tools, perform development reviews for off-site scopes and review utility coordination submissions
- The candidate should be able to conduct night inspections and attend public meetings as required for project coordination and public engagement
- The candidate should be able to support Organizational Quality Management (OQM) program compliance, including tasks related to document control, quality control, process improvement, and field reviews
- The candidate should be able to review and provide feedback on the work of draftspersons and other engineering technicians
- The candidate should be able to perform a variety of administrative and technical functions that support ongoing engineering activities
