Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Journeyperson certificate in the carpentry trade from a recognized post-secondary institution
Experience: Candidates should have experience in alterations, renovations, repairs, inspections, and maintenance of large buildings
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be capable of managing the physical demands of the job, which include considerable fatigue, regular lifting or moving of objects over 50 lbs., and use of hand tools requiring accuracy and steadiness
- The candidates should be physically capable of using gross and fine motor skills, maintaining balance, working in awkward or cramped positions, and sustaining strength and endurance
- The candidates should be able to travel throughout the Region and drive on a regular basis, the ability to problem solve and make independent decisions
- The candidates should have the ability to assess and evaluate multiple issues and balance competing demands in a dynamic environment
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have experience reading drawings and blueprints, knowledge of accepted carpentry trade methods, materials, and tools
- The candidates should have knowledge of accepted carpentry trade practices and codes, knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices
- The candidates should demonstrate professionalism, possess a valid Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 driver’s license
- The candidates should provide a current driver’s abstract acceptable to the Employer, Journeyperson certification in carpentry
- The candidates should provide a Criminal Records Check from local police satisfactory to the Employer
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform a wide range of skilled, advanced, and finish carpentry work and services at the full journeyperson level on complex and detailed projects
- The candidates should be able to complete alterations, renovations, repairs, inspections, and maintenance on government buildings using various woodworking machinery and tools, adhering to trade practices, safety policies, and applicable codes
- The candidates should be able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams, and may prepare sketches and drawings related to assigned work
- The candidates should be able to use diagnostic skills to assess job requirements and propose effective solutions
- The candidates should be able to prepare materials lists, obtain competitive quotes for assigned tasks, and provide accurate cost estimates
- The candidates should be able to pick up and distribute materials efficiently and in a timely manner
- The candidates should be able to supervise subordinate positions when required and exercise independent judgment depending on the nature of the task
- The candidates should be able to perform related duties as assigned, both indoors and outdoors, including in adverse weather conditions
