Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the French and English Language
Education: Candidates should be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certification
Experience: Candidates should have experience working with individuals from diverse ethno-cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and be computer literate

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should demonstrate the ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour
  • The candidate should have psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and addictions
  • The candidate should be a self-directed, highly organized team player with communication and interpersonal skills that enable effective collaboration in an inter-disciplinary team environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should have medication administration certification, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and collaborate effectively within a diverse inter-professional team
  • The candidate should have strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, particularly related to the care of older persons with mental health and/or addiction issues
  • The candidate should have bilingualism (French and English) and proficiency in a second language

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to provide client-centred psychiatric and general nursing care while ensuring security, safety, and adherence to the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) standards of nursing practice
  • The candidate should be able to collaborate with the primary nurse to perform assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate interdisciplinary plans of care for clients with mental health and addiction issues
  • The candidate should be able to work effectively as a member of an inter-professional team and contribute to program development
  • The candidate should be able to provide education, support, and supervision to students, demonstrate sound knowledge of geriatric psychiatry, crisis intervention, and addiction issues
  • The candidate should be able to make behavioural observations, conduct mental status assessments, and monitor patients’ responses to pharmaceutical and care interventions
  • The candidate should be able to maintain accurate documentation and communicate ongoing information effectively with other team members
  • The candidate should be able to work 12-hour shift rotations including weekends and perform duties at the Queen Street site
