Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed an accredited nursing program and hold a current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province
Experience: Candidates should have at least two years of experience working as a nurse

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should be available for shifts/hours that vary based on operational needs, including days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays; the length of shifts varies depending on the event at Canadian Blood Services’ fixed and mobile donor centers
  • The candidate should be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts and physically capable of lifting weights up to 10 kg (22 lbs)
  • The candidate should be prepared to travel for mobile events in various communities, with transportation provided by Canadian Blood Services

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should possess a certification in First Aid and CPR, previous experience as a preceptor or in coaching others
  • The candidate should have technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs
  • The candidate should have proficiency in a second language, which is considered an asset to support a positive donor experience

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to leverage effective communication skills to conduct registration and confidential screening to determine donor eligibility while building and promoting a positive donor experience
  • The candidate should be able to utilize superb people skills to provide donors with information, instruction, and advice on blood donation
  • The candidate should be able to draw on knowledge and experience to provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as team lead for collection events
  • The candidate should be able to apply excellent interpersonal skills to work in a diverse team environment, assisting in the collection of whole blood and/or apheresis blood components that save lives daily
  • The candidate should be able to assist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment at mobile events within the community to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use
