Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed high school
Experience: Candidates should have experience in surveying
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should be able to lift and move objects weighing up to and beyond 50 lbs occasionally
- The candidate should be able to stand for prolonged periods, climb over terrain, and work in awkward positions, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
- The candidate should be willing to travel extensively throughout the region, be prepared to work significant, compensated overtime
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license, hold a valid Flag Person certificate
- The candidate should have knowledge of road maintenance and construction work practices, knowledge of survey practices, protocols, tools, and equipment used in the performance of such work
- The candidate should have knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices, demonstrate the ability to make independent decisions
- The candidate should demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills, provide a recent Driver’s Abstract that is acceptable to the employer
Responsibilities:
- The candidate should be able to perform physically demanding work required for the administration of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Provincial Capital Construction Program
- The candidate should be able to work as a member of a survey crew for the layout of various construction projects such as roads, culverts, and bridges in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and Departmental safety practices
- The candidate should be able to weigh construction materials such as granulars and asphalt, conduct roadside checks for materials such as granulars and asphalt
- The candidate should be able to perform flag person duties for survey work, cut brush using a chainsaw and an axe, assist Engineering Aide I’s and Aide II’s in using GPS Survey equipment and levels, acting as a rodman and chainman
- The candidate should be able to drive survey pegs and set up construction signs, maintain clean job sites free of debris
- The candidate should be able to drive to various worksites and transport construction materials for testing and perform other related duties
