Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of completed Grade 12
Experience: Candidates should have experience preparing AutoCAD construction drawings in Civil 3D
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should have the ability to perform accurate survey work, draft simple designs, and make routine office and field engineering computations, the ability to read and interpret engineering plans and understand specifications
- The candidate should have the ability to problem solve with accuracy in a technical environment, the ability to work efficiently in a team environment with little supervision and under tight time lines
- The candidate should have the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, the ability to work outdoors in inclement weather
- The candidate should be proficient in the use of software applications, geographical information systems, and databases such as TopoBase, Hansen, AutoCAD Map 3D, and Civil 3D
- The candidate should have the ability to arrange suitable transportation to various work locations
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should have supplemented by technical courses related to the work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- The candidate should have a good knowledge of municipal design and construction of sewer systems, knowledge of surveyor methods and techniques
- The candidate should have a working knowledge of standard engineering concepts and terminology
- The candidate should have strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills with a focus on customer service
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to create sewer design construction drawings using GIS/AutoCAD/TopoBase, based on departmental paper records and electronic databases
- The candidates should be able to update GIS as-built information accurately and in a timely manner
- The candidates should be able to research and provide technical and other information regarding sewer and water infrastructure to the public, city staff, and private companies, including written correspondence
- The candidates should be able to undertake quality control processes related to existing GIS data, make recommendations to improve branch processes and information, carry out survey work to collect as-built field information
- The candidates should be able to follow confined space entry procedures safely and effectively, carry out design and construction technical assignments
- The candidates should be able to communicate and correspond professionally with the public, private companies, outside agencies, and other City branches, perform other duties and responsibilities
