Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Journeyperson certificate in the plumbing trade from a recognized post-secondary institution
Experience: Candidates should have experience in plumbing maintenance and repair

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should have the ability to problem-solve and make independent decisions, the ability to assess and evaluate multiple issues and balance competing demands in a dynamic environment
  • The candidate should be willing and able to travel throughout the region and be regularly able to lift or move objects up to 25 lbs., and occasionally over 50 lbs
  • The candidate should be capable of physical effort including, Constant use of hand tools requiring accurate control and steadiness for installing, removing, or replacing equipment/systems, Maintaining physical balance when working on ladders and scaffolding, Regularly standing, walking, climbing, using gross and fine motor skills, Working in awkward or cramped positions (such as crawling under equipment to test and repair)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should have knowledge of plumbing maintenance and repair, knowledge of accepted plumbing trade practices and codes
  • The candidate should have knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices
  • The candidate should have a valid Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 driver’s license, a current driver’s abstract acceptable to the employer.
  • The candidate should hold Journeyperson certification in plumbing and Having the strength and endurance necessary for the job

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform advanced, skilled plumbing work at the full journey person level across all government buildings and facilities within the Region
  • The candidates should be able to install, alter, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, equipment, components, and fixtures in accordance with approved codes, trade practices, safety regulations, and facility policies
  • The candidates should be able to perform work across several building trades collaboratively with maintenance staff and occupants, supervise other trades staff and contractors on site as circumstances demand
  • The candidates should be able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and drawings accurately, participate in facility condition assessments and audits
  • The candidates should be able to prepare estimates of time, materials, and equipment required to complete assigned work, obtain price quotes in compliance with purchasing policies and handle material pickups
  • The candidates should be able to liaise effectively with facility occupants to ensure compliance with procedures, maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
  • The candidates should be able to drive a government vehicle safely while performing duties and perform other related duties
