Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of university graduation in a related field (such as but not limited to law, governance, or public policy
Experience: Candidates should have four years of progressively responsible experience in the relevant field

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should have four years of progressively responsible related experience, or equivalent as described below, a one-year certificate in a related field plus seven years of related experience, a two-year diploma in a related field plus six years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in a related field plus three years of related experience
  • The candidate should provide a cover letter outlining in detail how their experience relates to the qualifications
  • The candidate should have knowledge of and experience with administrative and natural justice, experience working with the public and managing stakeholder expectations
  • The candidate should have knowledge of and the ability to interpret legislation,  knowledge of legal and governmental principles, and affordable housing initiatives
  • The candidate should have experience working with Consumer Protection legislation, experience with research, market analysis, and policy development

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to provide expert legislative, policy, and program analysis, advice, and statute interpretation on the Residential Tenancies Act, Mobile Home Sites Tenancies Act, and other consumer protection legislation, including the Franchises Act
  • The candidate should be able to develop policy recommendations addressing legislative and consumer issues, and suggest changes to legislation or regulations to meet business plan objectives for more efficient service to Albertans
  • The candidate should be able to engage with stakeholders and respond to public inquiries on consumer issues, ensuring tenants, consumers, businesses, and authorities understand the rights and responsibilities of all parties, while coordinating communications
  • The candidate should be able to collaborate with Compliance and Accountability teams regarding inspection reports under the Residential Tenancies Act and Mobile Home Sites Tenancies Act
  • The candidate should be able to provide subject matter expertise to Communications and support other branches or ministries on policy and legislative projects
  • The candidate should be able to monitor regulatory areas for market changes or public risks and recommend or provide direction on policy, process, legislative, and regulatory matters
