Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have Graduation from high school or equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have experience in cooking on a large scale commercial or an institutional operation
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be capable of lifting and moving kitchen equipment, sacks of vegetables, frozen meats, etc., weighing between 10 – 25 lbs regularly. Occasionally, freight boxes weighing up to 50 lbs may need to be handled
- The candidates should expect to stand throughout a typical shift to prepare, cook, and serve food. Walking will be required to push/pull trolleys and retrieve food from storage
- The candidates should be prepared to work in awkward or cramped spaces, requiring bending and kneeling
- The candidates should maintain higher than normal levels of attentiveness and alertness to health and safety practices, especially regarding patient food allergies, dietary requirements, cross-contamination of food, and the proper use of kitchen equipment
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have successfully completed an approved cook’s training course
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as with other staff, while following written and oral instructions and guidelines
- The candidates should maintain a satisfactory record of work performance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to prepare and serve breakfast, dinner, and supper meals for residents and staff, as well as prepare food items for catering purposes
- The candidates should be able to use a variety of cooking equipment including mixing machines, steam cookers, stoves, ovens, blenders, and slicers
- The candidates should be able to cook and bake a variety of foods, including bread, pastries, desserts, vegetables, soups, salads, sandwiches, meats, and gravies
- The candidates should be able to determine the quantity of food to be prepared and estimate raw ingredients required
- The candidates should be able to plan appropriate cooking and baking schedules for timeliness and participate in the service of food for residents, ensuring they are provided correct portions
- The candidates should be able to plan and organize work to maximize the efficiency of labor and prepare quality meals in accordance with meal schedules
- The candidates should be able to participate in sanitary and security procedures and train new cooks in the proper procedures of food preparation and service
- The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as required
