Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Possession of a current leadership certification specializing in aquatics as recognized by AFLCA (Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association) or CALA (Canadian Aqua-fitness Leaders Alliance) or Water-ART or YMCA Group Fitness in Aqua-fitness
Experience: Candidates should have experience leading a variety of aquatic classes

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be a minimum of 18 years of age and should be able to swim a minimum of 25 meters in both shallow and deep ends
  • The candidates should be willing to complete the applicable training programs
  • The candidates should complete a swim test and lead a drop-in aqua-fit class comfortably both in and out of the water

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should consider additional fitness certifications
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques employed in aquatic fitness instruction
  • The candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, being able to deliver instructions clearly and effectively
  • The candidates should exhibit excellent customer service skills, with the ability to motivate and encourage participants
  • The candidates should have the ability to recognize emergency situations and react accordingly
  • The candidates should hold a valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level C certification, which is a requirement for this position
  • The candidates’ hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • The candidates should demonstrate alignment with the Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated, and Excellent, fostering an environment for others to do the same. Additionally, they should demonstrate the foundational competencies, key behaviors, and attributes of the City’s six leadership competencies: Courage, Inclusivity, Values-Based Influencer, Collaborative Networker, Systems Thinker, and Creative Innovator

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to design and lead aquatic group fitness classes, delivering excellence in service and programming
  • The candidates should be able to evaluate and adjust aquatic fitness programs based on participant age, ability, and fitness level
  • The candidates should be able to incorporate motivating music selections into fitness classes
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate correct exercise methods and proper use of exercise equipment
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a safe environment for customers and staff in and around the water
  • The candidates should be able to attend in-service training and complete online training when required
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as required
