Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an Accredited Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) Program from Canadian Medical Association
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum two years experience as an ACP

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of regularly moving, lifting, or carrying patients or equipment ranging from 10 to 50 pounds and occasionally in excess of 100 lbs. in challenging environments that are not always conducive to proper ergonomics. The position is rated heavy to very heavy
  • The candidates should be constantly engaged in bending, stretching, kneeling, or pushing/pulling stretchers, which require up to 35 lbs. of push/pull force or greater per employee due to varying terrain and weather conditions, sometimes in small and cramped spaces
  • The candidates should have visual concentration or alertness, and there are frequent time pressures in the pre-hospital emergency setting
  • The candidates should be prepared for a lack of control over work pace due to unpredictable situations and/or call volume

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have current registration with the Provincial Medical Oversight Program as an ACP at the time of commencing employment
  • The candidates should possess a valid Class 4 Driver’s License issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador
  • The candidates should undergo a pre-employment Physical Capabilities test and medical examination
  • The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform independent advanced medical care and intervention to patients at pre-hospital scene settings
  • The candidates should be able to operate ambulances in responding to emergencies and routine calls
  • The candidates should be able to conduct physical examinations, perform comprehensive assessments and tests, and interpret a variety of tests and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to initiate a variety of advanced interventions and perform other related duties as required
  • The candidates should be able to work with considerable independence, and their work is reviewed through observation, examination of records and reports, and the presence or absence of valid complaints
  • The candidates should be able to report directly to the Operations Supervisors
