Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have Prior agriculture experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be legally eligible to work in Canada and be prepared for seasonal repetitive tasks
- The candidates should be aware that the job is physically demanding and may involve bending, crouching, and kneeling
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be proficient in utilizing a computer to complete various aspects of the job, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to analyze, solve problems, organize, communicate effectively, perform duties as requested, and work as a team
- The candidates should possess a high level of detail and accuracy
- The candidates should have the ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time under different weather conditions
- The candidates should have a valid driver’s license, as they may drive a company vehicle
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to support activities of the Heinz Seed breeding program located in Leamington Ontario, including but not limited to seeding, transplanting, plot and greenhouse upkeep, field sampling/data collection, seed harvesting, hybrid crossing, and other seasonal and general duties in the Leamington winter greenhouse
- The candidates should be able to perform greenhouse crop upkeep tasks including pruning, clipping, and tying up of plants
- The candidates should be able to assist in tomato hybrid crossing in the greenhouse and field and should be able to assist in special projects, as needed
- The candidates should be able to assist in seasonal operational tasks, such as seeding, transplanting, weed control, harvesting tomatoes for testing and seed and data collection
- The candidates should be able to perform cleaning of Greenhouse and designated work area and should be able to report signs of insect or disease damage
