Government of the Northwest Territories’ Infrastructure department oversees the planning and development of infrastructure projects in the territory. It manages transportation, public works, and utilities infrastructure. It ensures the efficient provision of essential infrastructure services to support economic growth and community development in the Northwest Territories. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have Three (3) years directly related experience as an equipment operator in a maintenance program such as municipal, highway, and airport

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a thorough knowledge of airport operations and procedures for the maintenance of airport facilities, such as snow and ice control
  • The candidates should have knowledge of runway conditions under all types of weather, such as snow, ice, rain, freezing rain, and frost
  • The candidates should have skills in the operation of the electronic recording decelerometer to report on the CRFI (Canadian Runway Friction Index) to flight service specialists

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to remove snow, water, ice, and other impediments from the apron, taxiways, runways, public access roads, parking areas, meteorological and telecommunications sites, and other airfield/airport surfaces
  • The candidates should be able to apply ice control chemicals as directed by the Supervisor
  • The candidates should be able to provide Canadian Runway Friction Index (CRFI) and initiate Notice to Airmen’s (NOTAMs)
  • The candidates should be able to operate specialized heavy equipment including industrial snow blowers, snow plows, sweepers, graders, gravel trucks, loaders, backhoes, crawlers, trenchers, tractors, mowers, and rollers
  • The candidates should be able to maintain an adequate supply of materials, parts, and equipment as directed by the Supervisor
