Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have a completion of a Veterinary Office Assistant certificate program
Experience: Candidates should have experience in working with animals as well as coursework in veterinary assistance, animal behavior, and/or training
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License for both roles
Responsibilities:
Animal Shelter Attendants:
- The candidates should be able to feed, handle, and care for impounded animals, as well as clean kennels and cages
- The candidates should be able to carry out routine facility cleaning and maintenance
- The candidates should be able to perform routine clerical tasks
- Forming an excellent working relationship with volunteers and the public is necessary for this role
- The candidates should be able to administer routine medical treatments and handle animals with a range of different temperaments
Animal Shelter Clerks:
- The candidates should be able to provide support to Animal Shelter Attendants in the feeding, handling, and care of impounded animals
- The candidates should be able to act as the point of public contact within the Shelter
- The candidates should be able to perform clerical duties, including maintaining Shelter records, completing correspondence, and handling payments made for dog licenses, animal impounding, owner surrender, and adoption fees
- The candidates should have experience working in a clerical setting
- The candidates should be able to type rapidly and accurately (minimum of 45 wpm)
