The TTC Department of Signal/Electrical/Communication is instrumental in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the city’s public transportation network. Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have graduation diploma (minimum 2 years) in the field of electronics normally obtained through completion of a Community College
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to pass the Plant Maintenance Department’s communications test
- The candidates should possess a valid non-probationary class “G” Driver’s license
- The candidates should be willing to attend and successfully complete the Training & Development Department’s program for the operation of a Commission vehicle
- The candidates should attend and successfully complete training courses for C.P.R., W.H.M.I.S, and Subway/SRT Rule Book training
- The candidates should possess or be able to obtain a valid Canadian Fire Alarm Association certificate
- The candidates should have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders, including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to follow and successfully complete a training program involving progressively more complex electrical/electronic work for the installation, testing, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, inspection, and repair of a variety of electrical/electronic communications equipment such as fixed and mobile radio systems, car to wayside systems, digital video recording equipment, closed circuit T.V., inter-office communication sets, public address systems, fire and burglar alarms, audio recording devices, pagers, etc.
- The candidates should be able to utilize sophisticated test equipment such as Radio and System analyzers to troubleshoot and diagnose faults in complex solid-state circuitry with varying power supplies and voltages
- The candidates should be able to treat passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensure the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and an employer
- The candidates should be able to carry out the work in a shop/yard environment, on vehicles, in subway stations and tunnels, or at any Commission property where repairs may be required
