The TTC Department of Signal/Electrical/Communication is instrumental in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the city’s public transportation network. The department enhances the reliability and performance of TTC’s subway, streetcar, and bus services. The department plays a vital role in delivering seamless transit experiences for millions of passengers daily in Canada’s largest city. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have graduation diploma (minimum 2 years) in the field of electronics normally obtained through completion of a Community College
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to pass the Plant Maintenance Department’s communications test
  • The candidates should possess a valid non-probationary class “G” Driver’s license
  • The candidates should be willing to attend and successfully complete the Training & Development Department’s program for the operation of a Commission vehicle
  • The candidates should attend and successfully complete training courses for C.P.R., W.H.M.I.S, and Subway/SRT Rule Book training
  • The candidates should possess or be able to obtain a valid Canadian Fire Alarm Association certificate
  • The candidates should have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders, including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to follow and successfully complete a training program involving progressively more complex electrical/electronic work for the installation, testing, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, inspection, and repair of a variety of electrical/electronic communications equipment such as fixed and mobile radio systems, car to wayside systems, digital video recording equipment, closed circuit T.V., inter-office communication sets, public address systems, fire and burglar alarms, audio recording devices, pagers, etc.
  • The candidates should be able to utilize sophisticated test equipment such as Radio and System analyzers to troubleshoot and diagnose faults in complex solid-state circuitry with varying power supplies and voltages
  • The candidates should be able to treat passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensure the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and an employer
  • The candidates should be able to carry out the work in a shop/yard environment, on vehicles, in subway stations and tunnels, or at any Commission property where repairs may be required
