Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as completion of 10th grade or equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have experience in custodial work, pool maintenance service work or related work experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess minimal swimming ability, capable of swimming at least one length of a pool, as it is required for the role
  • The candidates should be able to lift objects up to 20 lbs. as part of their normal duties

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions, along with a working knowledge of computers
  • The candidates should have a Level 1 Swimming Pool Operator’s Certificate, considered an asset for the position
  • The candidates should hold current Intermediate First Aid and CPR/AED certificates, mandatory for employment and obtain these certifications upon commencing the position
  • The candidates should be able to acquire knowledge of standard methods, materials, and equipment used in the care and maintenance of swimming pools and related facilities
  • The candidates should Demonstrate decision-making, prioritization, and time management skills and should know that Hire is contingent upon a satisfactory Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector check, as per the City of Edmonton’s requirements
  • The candidates should align with the Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated, and Excellent, fostering an environment for others to do the same
  • The candidates should demonstrate the foundational competencies, key behaviors, and attributes of the City’s six leadership competencies: Courage, Inclusivity, Values-Based Influencer, Collaborative Networker, Systems Thinker, and Creative Innovator

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform general janitorial work, which involves cleaning the pool area, staff areas, indoor playground, floors, walls, windows, and fixtures, vacuuming the pools, and ensuring the washrooms are clean and disinfected
  • The candidates should be able to pick up debris around pool areas and able to maintain pool filtration systems
  • The candidates should be able to monitor and balance pool water chemistry and perform periodic, scheduled readings and able to perform periodic security checks and report any security problems
  • The candidates should be able to assist in facility maintenance at the end of the day as they clear the facility of customers and able to complete routine inspections and maintenance reports, as required
  • The candidates should be able to provide exterior site maintenance, including picking up garbage and changing garbage bags, as well as snow removal and ice clearing in the winter
  • The candidates should be able to complete in-house training as required and able to use respiratory protection, including Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), for some duties included in this position
  • The candidates should be able to comply with the City of Edmonton’s Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, which is a requirement for these positions
