Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an accredited nursing education program
Experience: Candidates should have 3 – 5 years of emergency/acute care experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to actively support frontline patient care needs, including a heavy physical component such as transfers/lifts
  • The candidates should be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with patients of varying mobility

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in an ED setting within the last 2 years, which is mandatory and should have Charge, Trauma, and Triage experience in an ED setting, which is mandatory
  • The candidates should possess expert knowledge of emergency nursing care standards/protocols and should demonstrate proven critical thinking and judgment
  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner and should possess excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate a proven ability to facilitate groups and manage change in a positive manner and should demonstrate proven reliability/dependability
  • The candidates should have preferences for certifications in Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • The candidates should have preferences for applicants with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and should hold a current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
  • The candidates should have preferences for applicants who have shown initiative in leadership development (LEADS, and Frontline Leadership Certification)
  • The candidates should be active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow, and acting as a role model, clinical resource, and advocate for nursing staff
  • The candidates should be able to take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities, in addition to providing frontline nursing care as required
  • The candidates should be able to use their in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment, and clinical experience to assist in providing solutions for complex healthcare issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators, and policymakers
  • The candidates should be able to play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS
  • The candidates should be able to report to the Site & Seniors Manager, coordinate patient care and discharge planning on the nursing unit, and assist in organizing, supervising, and evaluating programs and initiatives
  • The candidates should be able to help lead and mentor the team, provide front-line clinical support, allocate resources, and conduct staff meetings
