Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates should have high school diploma with grade 12 English
Experience: Candidates should have one (1) year of experience in a front-line service position

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check
  • The candidates should have fluency in Inuktitut
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and have experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment
  • The candidates should have acceptable combinations of education and experience for consideration in this role

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to support the provision of public library services to meet the informational, educational, cultural, and recreational needs of residents and visitors to Iqaluit
  • The candidates should be able to work alongside other library staff to provide library services that play a crucial role in promoting literacy and critical awareness within the community
  • The candidates should be able to process materials borrowed and returned by patrons and register new patrons using the Nunavut Public Library Services (NPLS) Integrated Library System (ILS)
  • The candidates should be able to provide reference services to patrons through knowledge of the ILS, NPLS online catalog, other online library catalogs, reference, and educational software, including materials on hand
  • The candidates should be able to supervise the use of public access computers, ensuring that patrons do not exceed their time limit to ensure that all patrons have a chance to use the computers
  • The candidates should be able to assist patrons in the use of electronic equipment, including printers, scanners, microfilm viewers, and other devices
  • The candidates should be able to perform administrative duties in maintaining the library collection and records, according to NPLS policies and record accurate statistics of reference queries and library traffic while on duty
  • The candidates should be able to shelve materials correctly in the collection and participate in routine shelf-reading to ensure that the library collection is in order and assist with the annual re-registration and updating of patron records
  • The candidates should be able to accept payment for lost or damaged materials, photocopies, purchased paperbacks, and issue receipts
