Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Secondary School Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 1 year of instructional experience working with children, youth, and adults of all abilities
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should have be a minimum of 16 years of age and currently enrolled in Secondary School
- The candidate should be prepared to provide a satisfactory criminal reference check with vulnerable sector screening, dated within the last 30 days, if they are a new hire or have not previously performed in this position
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should have experience with belaying and indoor rock climbing, possess excellent indoor rock climbing knowledge
- The candidate should demonstrate excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally when interacting with staff, participants, parents/guardians, and the general public
- The candidate should hold a valid Standard First Aid with AED/CPR C certification, have a HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) certification
Responsibilities:
- The candidate should be able to belay climbers safely using proper technique and confidently demonstrate top rope climbing skills using a Gri-Gri belay device and appropriate climbing equipment
- The candidate should be able to assist climbers and fellow belayers in the correct use of climbing harnesses and demonstrate how to tie a Figure-8 knot
- The candidate should be able to support various climbing programs, including registered programs, drop-in sessions, party and group packages, after-school programs, summer camps, and special events
- The candidate should be able to ensure a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment that promotes participation and personal development while belaying
- The candidate should possess knowledge and understanding of rock climbing policies and procedures, demonstrate strong risk management skills, monitor the climbing wall area to ensure user safety during operational hours
- The candidate should be able to inspect the rock climbing wall and equipment for safety and report any deficiencies, assist with routine maintenance and cleaning of the climbing wall and equipment
- The candidate should be able to provide excellent customer service and maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for participants and the general public, support and promote the HIGH FIVE® principles of healthy child development
