Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should attend and complete both the CAN-BIKE Skills II and Instructor Workshop courses – with an 80% or better mark on written exam
Experience: Candidates should have have some rider teaching experience or training

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be a minimum of 16 years of age
  • The candidates should be able to attend and complete handling skills and road tests
  • The candidates should be physically fit with a strong interest in promoting cycling as a means of active transportation
  • The candidates should have a roadworthy bike and helmet to use for training and teaching

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be experienced riders with demonstrable competence and have some teaching experience or training
  • The candidates should have a good understanding and knowledge of the Ontario road rules
  • The candidates should hold current Standard First Aid / CPR C from an accredited organization, or have the ability to obtain it within 1 month of the date of hire
  • The candidates should have High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development or Sport Certification, which is considered an asset
  • The candidates should possess exceptional customer service and communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to plan, organize, and implement a high-quality program that is stimulating and enjoyable for all participants, reporting to the Recreation Programmer/Recreation Coordinator
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the safety and wellbeing of registered participants at all times and able to plan, organize, and deliver high-quality safe and stimulating Canadian Cycling Association CAN-BIKE lessons for all levels of participants
  • The candidates should be able to maintain complete vigilance while on duty and be ready to respond to any emergency situation and able to provide a high level of front-line customer service, including greeting and engaging participants
  • The candidates should be able to supervise volunteers and participants and ensure their safety at all times
  • The candidates should be able to complete administrative duties in a timely manner, such as attendance, incident/accident reports, and opening and closing procedures
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a safe and tidy program space, ensuring equipment is set up and stored appropriately
  • The candidates should be able to report all concerns, accidents, and incidents to immediate supervisors for follow-up and take appropriate action
  • The candidates should be able to maintain an understanding of department programs and services and adhere to corporate policies & procedures, confidentiality guidelines, emergency procedures, and health and safety standards for all participants and staff
  • The candidates should be able to attend meetings/training as required
  • The candidates should be able to perform any other duties as assigned
