Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a minimum Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience related to the duties listed as a fully licensed 306A Red Seal Plumber with industrial/commercial experience and familiarity with all plumbing systems

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold a Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development Certificate of Qualification as a Licensed Plumber (306A) in Ontario
  • The candidates should possess a TSSA Gas Technician certification (preferred; premiums apply), hold a valid Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA) Backflow Prevention License or be willing and able to obtain it within one (1) year of hire
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate a high level of knowledge of plumbing equipment and processes
  • The candidates should have excellent communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to deal with internal and external contacts in a courteous and efficient manner
  • The candidates should have basic computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel); experience with MMS computer systems (such as Maximo), the ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications
  • The candidates should hold a valid MTO ‘G’ class driver’s licence in good standing with a driver’s abstract acceptable to the City (maximum of 3 demerit points; maximum of 2 convictions within the previous 36 months; no driving-related criminal code convictions within the previous 36 months; and no ignition interlock restrictions)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform predictive, preventive, and reactive maintenance on a variety of plumbing systems and related operating equipment, building environmental systems, building envelope, and grounds at various City facilities in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner
  • The candidates should be able to perform work in adherence to all relevant plumbing, building, and fuel codes, as well as other applicable regulations and local by-laws, carry out plumbing-related maintenance duties such as new installations and repairs to piping systems, fixtures, and other plumbing devices used for water distribution and wastewater disposal in various City-owned or operated commercial and industrial buildings
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the maintenance and repair of various mechanical equipment including, but not limited to, HVAC systems, water treatment systems, air handling systems, steam and hot water boilers, circulation pumps, humidification systems, sump and sewage pumps, pressure washers, chillers, cooling towers, fire and life safety systems, and refrigeration plants (within code and licensing restrictions)
  • The candidates should be able to troubleshoot problem areas within facilities to identify the cause of failure and determine the best course of action based on performance, cost, energy efficiency, and industry best practices
  • The candidates should be able to maintain equipment history files and log service work in Maximo (work order system) for all equipment and maintenance performed, work with supervisors to procure parts or services in accordance with corporate purchasing by-laws
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the implementation of energy management programs and initiatives and recommend energy-efficient measures when applicable
  • The candidates should be able to arrange for the removal of hazardous materials and maintain all required documentation and manifests, participate on various City teams and initiatives
  • The candidates should be able to serve as a mentor in an apprenticeship program, when applicable, participate in the corporate after-hours on-call program
