City of Winnipeg’s Assets and Project Management department oversees the planning and implementation of infrastructure projects. It manages city assets, conducts project assessments, and ensures regulatory compliance. It supports the efficient use of resources and the delivery of capital projects to enhance Winnipeg’s infrastructure and services. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have swimming Pool Operations and Management Certificate
Experience: Candidates should have experience with custodial/cleaning duties including the use of power-operated custodial equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • The candidates should undergo a Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector) and Child Abuse Registry Check satisfactory to the employer
  • The candidates must be willing and able to move locations per management direction based on operational needs
  • The candidates must be able to work in a warm humid environment and be free of any respiratory problems or susceptibility to infection which may hamper job performance
  • The candidates must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including the ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and work at heights, in confined spaces, or in a warm, humid environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in the operation of power and hand tools and possess verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate information to others, including colleagues and members of the public
  • The candidates should demonstrate written communication skills with the ability to produce and complete written documents
  • The candidates should possess interpersonal skills with the ability to interact satisfactorily with the public, including community groups and other civic staff
  • The candidates should have knowledge of materials and chemicals related to the position
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions and regulations that are applicable
  • The candidates should have knowledge in the operation of swimming pool maintenance (vacuuming, water testing, and balancing pool water)
  • The candidates should provide CSA approved personal protective safety boots (Six (6) inches above the ankle) at their own expense

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform cleaning of public areas and assist in testing and maintaining proper water quality in all pool facilities by water sampling, testing samples, and adjusting the water chemical feed systems based on the test results
  • The candidates should be able to provide ground maintenance such as cutting grass and trimming hedges and shrubs and able to perform a variety of custodial functions in and around facilities, including setup and removal of furniture
  • The candidates should be able to perform a variety of minor building maintenance and repair tasks and assist tradespersons and higher-level staff in major repairs and maintenance operations
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a proficient level of safety practices and procedures in buildings and able to operate safely all power and hand tools
  • The candidates should be able to assist in maintaining proper water quality and control, including water testing, pool fouling, pool vacuuming, and adjusting chemicals to maintain proper water balance
  • The candidates should be able to interact with the general public and answer telephone inquiries, taking messages, and/or referring to the appropriate source
  • The candidates should be able to perform minor maintenance and assist with major maintenance to locks and lockers and able to participate in various upgrading and training programs
  • The candidates should be able to travel between various sites on occasion and able to perform other duties consistent with the classification
