Days of Work: This position works a compressed week of four, 8.75-hour shifts, with three days in the office and one day of remote work

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations
Experience: Candidates should have at least 1 year of related experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates to be efficient and thorough, to focus on results, exhibit a service orientation, possess impact and influence skills, and be skilled in relationship building. They should also be strong communicators with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive deadlines

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a high level of understanding and implementing Canadian Press (CP) Style, which is required for this position
  • The candidates should have previous work experience in a police environment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to draft and edit content for communications materials for different mediums and channels, including newsletters, web, speaking notes, presentations, and social media
  • The candidates should be able to develop and implement communications plans and tactics, including creative solutions and identifying opportunities
  • The candidates should be able to meet with clients, project teams, and service providers to identify their needs, translate technical information into simple terms, and discuss creative and responsive solutions and costs of service
  • The candidates should be able to organize special events and meetings such as booking facilities and creating agendas and related materials
  • The candidates should be able to collect and summarize information and data by conducting environmental scanning and researching industry trends
  • The candidates should be able to develop and distribute news releases, ensuring the appropriate spokespersons are prepared for any interviews
  • The candidates should be able to answer media calls and help coordinate responses on behalf of the Calgary Police Service (CPS)
  • The candidates should be able to analyze and distribute media clippings
