City of Calgary’s Public Spaces Delivery department is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Capital development project manager. City of Calgary’s Public Spaces Delivery department focuses on enhancing and maintaining public spaces within the city. It oversees the planning, design, and implementation of projects aimed at improving parks, plazas, and recreational areas. Through community engagement and collaboration with various stakeholders, it ensures the creation of vibrant and accessible public spaces for residents and visitors alike. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed 2 year technical diploma in Geomatics, Architecture, Engineering, Commerce, and/or Business Administration, or related field
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of building infrastructure project management experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be prepared for a physical environment primarily working at a desk but also requiring occasional visits to various meeting locations and construction sites where personal protective equipment
  • The candidates should occasionally work in conditions such as climbing ladders, accessing roofs or crawl spaces, and in hot/cold environments

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold a Journeyman certificate (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical) with at least 6 years of building infrastructure project management experience
  • The candidates should possess a degree in Geomatics, Architecture, Engineering, Commerce, and/or Business Administration, or related field, combined with at least 4 years of building infrastructure project management experience
  • The candidates should have a project management designation and/or advanced training in project management
  • The candidates should have experience with building design and construction
  • The candidates must possess strong planning and organizing skills to meet challenging deadlines, along with the ability to research, develop, and recommend options and facilitate implementation
  • The candidates should demonstrate exceptional communication skills, the ability to lead and work concurrently with interested parties, and well-developed presentation, consulting, and facilitation skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to deliver vertical infrastructure projects such as buildings or ancillary structures
  • The candidates should be able to define project requirements, manage the activities of internal teams, private sector consultants, and contractors, and ensure project budget, schedule, and scope goals are met
  • The candidates should be able to lead and coordinate projects through planning, design, construction, and closeout, using project management processes that mitigate financial and reputational risk
  • The candidates should be able to ensure compliance with relevant standards, policies, guidelines, and legislation
  • The candidates should be able to create and maintain schedules, management plans, administrative controls, and risk registers
  • The candidates should be able to manage project financials, negotiate vendor contracts, and monitor vendor cost and deliverables
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with and oversee internal and external interested parties to develop project scopes and schedules, ensuring work performed by contractors aligns with contracts, procurement trade agreements, and health and safety guidelines
  • The candidates should be able to perform regular site inspections, chair meetings, and develop consistent reporting strategies to regularly inform the project sponsor, management, and other key collaborators, including responses to public inquiries, media requests, and publicly shared information
  • The candidates should be able to assess existing infrastructure to provide guidance on potential issues and upgrade opportunities
