Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualifications
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to pass an OPP background/security investigation
  • The candidates should possess a valid Class G Driver’s License
  • The candidates should have knowledge of vehicle maintenance guidelines for arranging vehicle maintenance and servicing
  • The candidates should have knowledge of and skill in general cleaning techniques to ensure quality and efficiency
  • The candidates should have knowledge of and skill in proper cleaning techniques for bodily substances located in cells and police vehicles
  • The candidates should have knowledge of and skill in operating cleaning equipment.
  • The candidates should have knowledge of maintenance of grounds keeping equipment and their operation
  • The candidates should have an understanding of building operations and mechanical systems to identify and arrange servicing and repairs by technical personnel
  • The candidates should have knowledge of and skill in basic carpentry and plumbing to perform minor repairs
  • The candidates should have knowledge of relevant sections of WHMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act that pertain to handling and storage of toxic chemical solutions such as solvents and cleansing agents, and safety in use of equipment
  • The candidates should have interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • The candidates should have problem-solving skills to determine repair needs and mechanical problems in the building, its operating systems, furniture, and equipment and ascertain whether or not an external contractor is required to resolve the problem
  • The candidates should be able to perform basic vehicle maintenance checks to ensure the vehicle is operational
  • The candidates should be able to identify requirements before sending the vehicle out for servicing
  • As part of the OPP Values, the candidates should have the ability to maintain confidentiality while performing their duties as a Caretaker

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide cleaning and maintenance services for grounds, interior, and exterior of buildings and vehicles, as well as arrange for building and vehicle repairs
  • The candidates should be able to perform basic repairs and maintenance of operating systems, furniture, and equipment
