Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed some secondary school education
Experience: Candidates should have up to 1 month of relevant experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should possess the physical capability to perform the ongoing duties of the position, work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements
- The candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively with the general public and staff demonstrate reliability and be self-motivated
- The candidate should be able to communicate with tact and diplomacy, display initiative and a willingness to contribute, be an effective team member
- The candidate should be able to work different schedules, including weekends and statutory holidays, be available to work overtime
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should have (minimum Grade 10), possess current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates
- The candidate should have a valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
- The candidate should have general knowledge of City services, be familiar with proper lifting techniques
- The candidate should have knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
- The candidate should be able to operate hand and power tools, including jack hammers, tampers, levels, chainsaws, push snow blowers, push mowers, and grass trimmers
- The candidate should be able to establish and maintain good working relationships with management, co-workers, and the general public, be able to successfully complete a Back-fit Test
Responsibilities:
- The candidate should be able to support the operation and maintenance of the City’s municipal infrastructure, including drinking water production and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, surface water management, and solid waste collection, processing, and disposal
- The candidate should be able to provide complementary maintenance and labour support across various Service Areas within the Public Works and Environmental Services Department
