Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have degree or diploma in journalism or broadcasting (or equivalent experience)
Experience: Candidates should have proven experience in journalism and media
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have on-air broadcast experience
- The candidates should have proven experience reporting and/or chasing in the field
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work in a dynamic group environment
- The candidates should be fluent in written and spoken Punjabi
- The candidates should possess knowledge of the cultural and political landscape in Canada and British Columbia
- The candidates should have experience writing, producing, and/or reporting broadcast news content
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to juggle multiple tasks and deliver under tight deadlines
- The candidates should possess superior communication, writing, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
- The candidates should have a team-focused attitude and proficient computer skills
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to support the team in sourcing, chasing, reporting, developing, and presenting compelling news stories for both national and regional Punjabi broadcasts effectively
- The candidates should be able to contribute positively to the Punjabi news team in Vancouver, demonstrating a strong understanding of journalistic principles and storytelling techniques
- The candidates should be able to work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure timely and accurate reporting of news events, adhering to OMNI Television’s standards of excellence
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills in Punjabi and English, both written and verbal, to effectively convey information to diverse audiences
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced news environment, responding quickly to breaking news situations and changing priorities
- The candidates should be able to generate compelling and original story ideas, demonstrating creativity and innovation in their approach to storytelling
- The candidates should be able to collaborate effectively with camera operators and peers in the field, working together to deliver strong content that engages audiences
- The candidates should be able to work under tight deadlines, filing pitched stories promptly, often within the same day, while maintaining high quality and accuracy
- The candidates should be able to respond to breaking news quickly and accurately, demonstrating agility and adaptability in fast-paced situations
- The candidates should be able to voice, present, and chase stories for broadcast, delivering information in a clear and engaging manner
- The candidates should be able to conduct interviews with experts, guests, and sources within the community, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and journalistic integrity
- The candidates should be able to translate and repackage stories as required, ensuring content is accessible to diverse audiences
- The candidates should be able to participate actively in pitch meetings, contributing ideas and insights to the editorial process
