Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of completed a Bachelor’s Degree specializing in Applied Human Nutrition
Experience: Candidates should have two years of experience within the last five years as a Clinical Dietitian

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to function effectively in a diverse and changing environment
  • The candidates should have the ability to lead practice initiatives within the nutrition or dietetics community of practice

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have an equivalent field of science as approved by the NLCD, supplemented by a 1-year internship and a Registered Dietitian (RD) professional designation
  • The candidates should be registered with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Dietitians
  • The candidates should possess thorough knowledge of nutritional health promotion strategies, nutritional interventions to prevent and manage acute and chronic diseases, clinical nutrition care processes, behavior change theory, primary care nutrition risk screening strategies, and pathways
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively with inter-professional team members, patients, residents, clients, and their families in both one-to-one and group environments
  • The candidates should have demonstrated effective written communication skills for client documentation, report writing, and professional communication
  • The candidates should be able to assume professional responsibility for safe, ethical, and effective practice
  • The candidates should demonstrate supervisory and leadership skills and possess a valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class IV Driver’s License
  • The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance and attendance and submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide nutrition care, including screening, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to clients of the Brookfield or Centreville FCT
  • The candidates should be able to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate nutrition services within the Primary Health Care Program, aligned with the patient health home model of care
  • The candidates should be able to work independently and take initiative, reporting to the Regional Manager of the Exploits Family Care Team and maintaining accountability to the Regional Professional Practice Consultant for Dietitians
  • The candidates should be able to deliver a range of nutrition services, including health promotion, disease prevention, nutrition counseling (group and individual), and chronic disease management
  • The candidates should be able to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition practice, program, and quality improvement initiatives within the FCT
  • The candidates should be able to engage in evidence-informed practice, education, and community capacity building, with a focus on primary health care initiatives
  • The candidates should be able to address the diverse nutritional needs of clients, including frail elderly, clients with acute or chronic diseases, and those at risk for malnutrition, providing care both face-to-face and virtually
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with the FCT team in the provision of care and engage with acute care and community supports for holistic patient management
  • The candidates should be able to mentor other dietitians and team members while supporting client navigation through the health system
  • The candidates should be able to promote and support person-and family-centered care, ensure safety in practice, and work with team members to identify risks and improve worker and patient safety and travel throughout the region
