Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates should have Masters in counselling, Psychology, Social Work or Demonstrated current registration in one of these Masters programs
Experience: Candidates should have three (3) years direct experience in crisis intervention and post trauma counselling with victims of crime, trauma, critical incidents Experience working with victims/survivors of violence against persons
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have experience in clinical assessments and triaging multiple files, including knowledge of identifying, assessing, and managing high-risk indicators
- The candidates should have experience in Post Trauma Interventions
- The candidates should have experience in assessment, triage, and knowledge of a variety of community resources
- The candidates should have a working knowledge of the Criminal Justice System
- The candidates should have experience in suicide risk assessment and intervention
- The candidates should demonstrate fluency in English, including oral, reading, and writing skills
- The candidates should have knowledge of the professional code of ethics relevant to their College
- The candidates should be familiar with the Child and Family Services Act
- The candidates should have an understanding of the Mental Health Act
- The candidates should be knowledgeable about the Provincial and Federal Victims Bill of Rights
- The candidates should be familiar with best practices in Crisis Intervention and Early Intervention
- The candidates should have knowledge of social service agencies within the City of Ottawa
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to, under the direction of the Manager, Victim Crisis, provide crisis intervention, post-trauma counseling, assessment, and referral to victims and survivors of crime, tragic circumstances, and critical incidents
- The candidates should be able to liaise between the police service, Ottawa Victim Service, and other partners in the justice system and the community to ensure the optimal provision of services
- The candidates should be able to provide crisis intervention and post-trauma counseling to victims/survivors of crime, tragic circumstances, critical incidents, and disasters
- The candidates should be able to work in partnership with Ottawa Victim Services, Canadian Red Cross, Salvation Army, the City of Ottawa, and other community service providers to provide direct services to victims and survivors of crime and trauma
- The candidates should be able to assess and triage all assigned cases for high-risk lethality
- The candidates should be able to focus on identifying the level of risk, impact of the event, and availability of resources to individuals, groups, and the community
- The candidates should be able to ensure that all high-risk partner assault cases are referred to the Partner Assault Support Team for review and liaise with PAST team agencies when mandated to do so
- The candidates should be able to refer to appropriate community resources, including working collaboratively with Ottawa Victim Services to provide services
- The candidates should be able to work in conjunction with sworn members to ensure that victims/survivors are provided the best possible service
- The candidates should be able to work in conjunction with community partners, respecting all existing Memorandums of Understanding
- The candidates should be able to ensure that cultural interpretation is provided to individuals, groups, and the community when required
- The candidates should be able to provide input on standard operating procedures and protocols as requested
- The candidates should be able to participate in the evaluation of day-to-day operations to ensure ongoing improvements to function and services
- The candidates should be able to participate in team meetings
- The candidates should be able to actively participate in Clinical Supervision and creation of annual short and long term goals
- The candidates should be able to actively seek feedback from colleagues, manager, and victims/survivors regarding the provision of services and participate in ongoing professional development activities
- The candidates should be able to provide training and presentations to members of the community and members of the police service
