Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should have sure footing and the ability to walk on snow, slippery conditions caused by ice and rain, and in inclement weather cold, hot
- The candidate should have the ability to maintain a walking speed of 0.9 m/sec for approximately a 6 m distance
- The candidate should have the ability to hold their arm up at shoulder height, bend the elbow, extend the arm above the head, and hold a stop sign (approximately 2 lbs) for 1 minute intermittently over a 45-minute period
- The candidate should have the ability to stand for approximately 1 hour in all weather conditions heat, cold, rain, snow, humidity, and exposure to dust and hazards associated with high traffic conditions
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should have sufficient vision to see vehicles, different colours (such as traffic signal lights), children, and traffic signal indications from both close and far distances of approximately 300 feet, with adequate depth and peripheral perception.
- The candidate should have adequate hearing to communicate with children, motorists, and parents, and to hear vehicles approaching, honking
- The candidate should demonstrate general alertness and the ability to assess vehicles stopping and anticipate children’s and motorists’ actions

- The candidate should be able to confirm they are physically able to perform the essential duties of the position, as assessed by the City’s third-party provider upon hire and every two years thereafter (at the City’s expense)
- The candidate should be able to access reliable transportation, as work hours may fall outside of public transportation operations
