Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of WHMIS and other safe work procedures training
Experience: Candidates should have previous experience in performing routine custodial or maintenance work

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be prepared to spend a large portion of their time cleaning, doing grounds keeping, and occasionally moving boxes, furniture which can lead to physical discomfort in the neck, back, and arms
  • The candidates should be able to handle shoveling outer stairs, walkways, decks, and areas around water intake and sewer outtake piles during winter months, which can contribute to neck, back, and arm discomfort
  • The candidates should be able to spend hours cleaning the facility, which requires a great deal of attention to detail and aware that no unusual mental demands exist in this position and aware that there are no significant adverse environmental conditions associated with this position
  • The candidates should be prepared for frequent contact with cleaning chemicals, including materials with powerful odors that, if not handled properly, can cause injury, sickness, and skin irritation and rashes
  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision to determine the appropriate actions to be taken and ability to lift, move, and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of standard cleaning products, safe handling procedures, and equipment employed in janitorial care and maintenance of buildings
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of computer programs such as PeopleSoft and Email and good oral and written communication skills
  • The candidates should have the ability to demonstrate the safe and proper use of cleaning products and equipment to others

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to clean floors by sweeping, mopping, and polishing and vacuum rugs and carpets and spot clean
  • The candidates should be able to wash tables weekly and spot clean and and dust classrooms, offices, and hallways
  • The candidates should be able to clean and disinfect washrooms and water fountains, and replenish bathroom supplies
  • The candidates should be able to clean doors, partitions, and other surfaces, including windows
  • The candidates should be able to empty trash and recycling receptacles and maintain clean and tidy entryways
  • The candidates should be able to complete other cleaning tasks as required, such as wiping door knobs and light switches during cold and flu season

Benefits:

  • The candidates will get annual Northern Allowance of $7.87 per hour
