Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should be in possession of a valid First Aid/CPR Certificate and be willing to obtain and maintain an Advanced Marine Aide Certificate
Experience: Candidates should have experience and versatility on marine vessels

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be physically capable of performing lifesaving and emergency duties
  • The candidates should be able to work in all weather conditions
  • The candidates should be available to work shift/weekend/overtime schedules

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid MED Certificate (Marine Emergency Duty Certificate)
  • The candidates should have the ability to handle freight and assist passengers boarding and leaving the vessel
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public
  • The candidates should be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Marine Occupational Safety & Health (MOSH) regulations that apply to this work
  • The candidates should have a Certificate of Fitness as prescribed by Transport Canada

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to handle mooring lines and assist in the mooring of vessels
  • The candidates should be able to perform general maintenance and related work as assigned on vessels, ramps, and docks
  • The candidates should be able to assist passengers getting on and off the vessel
  • The candidates should be able to provide information to the public and respond to public inquiries
  • The candidates should be able to may be required to load and unload freight
  • The candidates should be able to may be required to collect tickets from passengers boarding the vessel and count passengers
