Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have diploma/degree in Dental Hygiene, or equivalent. Certificate in Dental Assisting an asset
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of five (5) years recent clinical experience in a dental environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be registered and in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario
  • The candidates should be certified under the Healing Arts Radiation Protection Act (HARP)
  • The candidates should hold a current certificate in CPR-C/HCP and First Aid
  • The candidates should provide proof of completion of the Public Health of Ontario IPAC Core Competencies and Reprocessing modules
  • The candidates with training in adult educational theory and methodology will be given Preference
  • The candidates should be proficient in electronic medical records, preferably with ClearDent/Sapphire, and digital radiographs
  • The candidates should possess effective communication, presentation, and organizational skills
  • The candidates should model the College values of Caring, Learning, Integrity, and Respect
  • The candidates should maintain a high level of professionalism within the college and in the Dental Community

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to ensure a safe learning environment is maintained for both students and clients of Algonquin College’s Dental clinics, reporting to the Chair, Allied Health, as a part-time clinician for the Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene Programs within the Allied Health Department
  • The candidates should be able to provide technical expertise and reinforce instruction to students during lab, preclinical, and clinical experiences as a registered dental hygienist
  • The candidates should be able to supervise and coach students in a clinical setting
  • The candidates should be able to assess students through skills evaluations, providing verbal and written feedback
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate procedures and skills
  • The candidates should be able to prepare for, attend, and contribute to calibration sessions and program meetings
  • The candidates should be able to perform other duties as assigned
