Shift: 34 hours per week (Weekends and Evenings)

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as a Pleasure Craft Operators Certificate
Experience: Candidates should have Boating experience and/or training

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have some storage space for assembling Clean Boater Kits at home, which may include larger boxes
  • The candidates should be willing to try new approaches and take initiative (approaching people proactively, trying different greetings)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be interested in best practices for boaters, biodiversity and ecosystems protection, community engagement, inclusivity, and diversity
  • The candidates should be able to take initiative, particularly in starting and maintaining conversations with people
  • The candidates should have a keen sense of working as a team and attention to detail and should have energy, a positive attitude, and eagerness to talk to people about important environmental and boating issues
  • The candidates should be able to take initiative to talk to people in various ways, including in person, by phone, and email
  • The candidates should have the ability to follow scripts in an engaging way and should be able to engage and connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • The candidates should be able to participate in planning and preparing for tabling at public events
  • The candidates should assist with digital campaigns by creating content, taking photos for social media posts, and writing short texts for blogs, emails, or social media
  • The candidates should possess digital skills and attention to detail to effectively track activities and inventory in spreadsheets, communicate online, and assemble Clean Boater Kits in a standard and consistent format

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to engage with boaters in the Vancouver Quadra riding at marinas, yacht clubs, boatyards, fuel docks, harbour authorities, and at boating related events to distribute Clean Boater Kits and conduct Clean Boater Surveys
  • The candidates should be able to assemble Clean Boater Kits with specific content and quality control for distribution and be trained on educating boaters about the supplies included
  • The candidates should be able to provide support to volunteer Dock Walkers, helping to coordinate their activities and ensuring they have the materials and support they need for dock walking in their communities
  • The candidates should be able to use tracking tools (spreadsheets, online forms, etc.) to document their activities along with volunteers and suggest and implement additional engagement methods or visit additional locations to increase the reach or impact of the work
  • The candidates should be able to update pump-out mapping and CMBC facilities documentation as needed
