Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a high school diploma
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 24 months of verifiable professional driving experience as a commercial vehicle driver within the last 3 years
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs, demonstrate a willingness to learn procedures in a regulatory environment
- The candidates should be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts, which are based on operational needs; the length of shifts varies according to the event at Canadian Blood Services fixed and mobile donor centers. Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays
- The candidates should not be required to engage in long haul or cross-border driving and demonstrate a strong culture of mutual respect and integrity
- The candidates should have the physical capability to load, unload, push, and carry heavy clinic equipment and supplies, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting up to 50 lbs., and pulling and pushing up to 136 kg (300 lbs.) on a wheeled platform
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess a valid Ontario Class A, B, D, or F driver’s license and provide a clean commercial driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days
- The candidates should be able to communicate effectively in English; a second language
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to utilize their experience in driving and transportation to ensure that blood and blood products are transported safely and kept at appropriate temperatures, following all safety measures and procedures
- The candidates should be able to ensure the safety of employees, donors, and volunteers travelling with them
- The candidates should be able to conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working order and accurately complete all required documentation
- The candidates should be able to leverage their customer service skills to assist the collections team by greeting donors and helping them book or rebook appointments
- The candidates should be able to assist with setting up systems and Wi-Fi connections for mobile events by using their familiarity with technology and ability to learn new programs
- The candidates should be able to utilize strong interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively with staff in carrying, setting up, and dismantling equipment and supplies
- The candidates should be able to load and unload equipment and supplies at donor centre sites and upon return to the centre
